Summer event at Fedje
• Summer event at Fedje
Saturday 25th June - Fedje
The weather was absolutely fantastic at this year's summer event, which was held in conjunction with the annual fishing festival at Fedje, an endearing island north of Øygården. The festival organizers did a superb job, with food and family entertainment in the afternoon, and a dance in the evening.
One of Bergen Scottish Society's members gave a well-versed and interesting speech regarding the connections and influences between Scotland and Norway over the centuries. Both he and our own Bergen Pipes & Drums were well received at the outdoor main gathering on Saturday, after which our group gathered for a barbecue at the home of our Island host organizer.
After over half of our group headed back to the mainland, the remaining pipers and drummer entertained folks outside Pernille's Cafe, and along with a few stragglers, settled in to cabins by the sea before being treated to another barbecue on Saturday evening, which included whalemeat from our host and haggis from one of our group.
Sunday was a relaxing day, enjoying both the weather and the view from the bunkers near the shipping traffic station, before the four piece band played some tunes at the early evening church service.
Both the sun and the islanders' hospitality shone on us to make this summer's event a wonderful occasion. Thanks to all who participated! We hope to find an excuse to go back to Fedje again.
